Care Instructions — MAR Closet

At MAR Closet, we want your outfits to look as beautiful as the day you received them, wear after wear. Proper care makes a real difference — especially for prints, embroidery, and delicate fabrics. Please follow these simple guidelines to keep your MAR Closet pieces looking fresh for longer.

General Care Guidelines

  • Always check the fabric type of your outfit before washing (see fabric-specific care below).
  • Wash dark and printed colors separately for the first few washes to prevent color bleeding.
  • Turn your outfit inside out before washing to protect prints, embroidery, and colors.
  • Avoid soaking colored or printed fabrics for long periods.
  • Use a mild detergent — avoid harsh bleach or strong chemical-based detergents.
  • Always air dry in shade, away from direct sunlight, to prevent color fading.
  • Iron on the reverse side of the fabric, especially for printed and embroidered pieces.

Fabric-Wise Care Instructions

🌸 Lawn (Printed / Embroidered)
  • Hand wash preferred; if machine washing, use a gentle/delicate cycle with cold water.
  • Do not wring or twist the fabric — gently squeeze out excess water.
  • Iron on medium heat, inside out.
  • Avoid direct sunlight while drying to protect print vibrancy.

🧵 Embroidered Pieces
  • Hand wash gently, avoiding direct rubbing on embroidered areas.
  • Do not scrub or brush embroidery/thread work directly.
  • Do not wring — lay flat or hang to dry in shade.
  • Iron from the inside/reverse side; avoid direct heat on embroidery, sequins, or handwork, as it may damage or melt delicate threads/embellishments.
  • For heavily embellished pieces, dry cleaning is recommended over regular washing.

🤍 Cotton / Khaddar
  • Machine or hand wash in cold to lukewarm water.
  • Slight shrinkage is natural with cotton/khaddar fabrics — this is normal.
  • Iron on medium-high heat while slightly damp for best results.

🎀 Chiffon / Silk-Based Fabrics
  • Hand wash only, using cold water and mild detergent.
  • Do not wring — gently press out water and hang to dry.
  • Iron on low heat, or steam iron for best results.
  • Dry cleaning recommended for best longevity.

🌙 Karandi / Winter Wear
  • Dry clean recommended, especially for embroidered or heavier pieces.
  • If hand washing, use cold water and mild detergent, and avoid excessive rubbing.
  • Store folded rather than hung, to maintain shape.

Do's and Don'ts

Do:

  • ✅ Read fabric care before the first wash
  • ✅ Wash similar colors together
  • ✅ Dry in shade
  • ✅ Store clean and completely dry garments only

Don’t:

  • ❌ Use bleach or harsh chemical detergents
  • ❌ Wring or twist embroidered/delicate fabrics
  • ❌ Dry in direct, harsh sunlight
  • ❌ Iron directly over embroidery, sequins, or handwork
  • ❌ Store damp clothing — this can cause mildew or fabric damage

Storage Tips

  • Store outfits in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
  • Fold embroidered and embellished pieces rather than hanging, to prevent stretching or damage to handwork.
  • Use breathable garment bags for long-term storage rather than plastic covers, to let the fabric breathe.
